My Baby Girl

February 3rd marked 5 amazing months since you were born and boy has time flown!  I absolutely love your slobbery kisses, high pitched squeals, open mouthed smiles, and little giggles that daddy and I try so hard to get! I love spending every day all day with you and couldn’t imagine not being able to do just that.  You are still a very happy, sweet baby. You love to be talked to, held and played with. You love your entertainment bouncer, chewing on anything and everything you can get your hands on, watching t.v. any chance you get (which we try hard not to let you do just yet), and standing up.  You hold yourself up so well on your tummy and have been rolling back and forth for a while now.  You also can sit up on your own for a little bit, but mommy stays really close in case you start to tip over.  You’ve been making noises and squealing, but recently started to make sounds like you’re trying to say words to us, like “ba-ba-ba”.  It’s so cute!  You also have started reaching for daddy and me sometimes and it just melts our hearts.  Daddy has been trying and trying to get you to laugh since you were born, and sometimes, just sometimes we’ll get a giggle or two out of you, but it’s pretty inconsistent.  You are still on a really good 3-4 hour schedule during the day and normally sleep all night.  Naps for you are really inconsistent.  Some days you go down great and sleep well for an hour or two. Others, you fight it and mommy doesn’t know what to do.  You were doing well with your laryngial (sp?) malaysia (where your larynx flaps close down and restrict airflow causing you to work hard to breath and make gasping noises) but then had several episodes in a row, a couple of them pretty scary, so we went back to your doctor and changed your acid reflux meds.  It has seemed to help since you haven’t had any episodes since.  We are praying that God would heal you of both issues and very soon! :)  You are such a beautiful baby and such a joy to be around.  Daddy and I are completely in love with you and not a day goes by that we don’t look at you in awe of our great God who created you and blessed us with you.  Our prayer is that we always, always point you to the One who loves you and knows you better than we do. And because these posts aren’t as fun without pictures, here are some recent ones..ok, maybe I should say ‘here are A LOT of recent ones’!

David & Kyndra {Tulsa Couples Photographer}

Kyndra contacted me last year for some 1 year anniversary photos for her and her sweet hubby.  With our move to Texas and having Naomi, we weren’t able to get together until October.  It was a perfect evening in Tulsa and David and Kyndra were such a fun couple to hang out with for a couple hours.  Kyndra is an aspiring photographer herself so it was really fun to chat about lenses, editing software and everything in between.  I absolutely love how their photos turned out because they show what a fun and sweet couple they are! Enjoy my favorites!

McKenzie & Nathan {Tulsa Engagement Photographer}

Kenzie and I go way back.  All the way back to when she was born.  I was there when my little sister came into this world.  I don’t remember how I felt about it then (I was probably upset that I wouldn’t be an only child anymore. Can we say brat??) but I do know that I now love that I have 3 little sisters.  I remember a time when we were both small that she would do anything I told her.  That didn’t last all that long and she’s been completely independent since.  Well, until Nathan came along in the 8th grade.  I remember the night he asked her to “go out” with him (like 13 yr. olds can even go on dates) over AOL instant messenger.  We were all (my mom, sisters, and I) standing around watching this middle school conversation happen.  Then he typed “I love you”.  I made fun of him (since I was so cool) and told Kenzie NOT to say it back, cause that would be stupid, right?  Remember that independence?  I think she thrives on disagreeing with me sometimes and doing the complete opposite :)  So, it was no surprise that she typed it back.  Well, almost 12 years later, after a few break ups and make ups (which is totally understandable when you start a relationship at the age of 13!), they are finally tying the knot!  I was thrilled when Kenzie (the creative one of the family) asked me to take engagement photos!  And, being so artsy, she also knew exactly what she wanted when it came to stylizing her photoshoot, which I absolutely loved!, but I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves…

Love her creativity. Yes, she made these!

How bout’ a picnic in the woods?

They are so goofy together :)  Welcome to the family, Nathan!

Liam {Tulsa Children’s Photographer}

So, I’m a bit behind on blogging.  Meet Liam.

He was 4 months old in these photos, and now he’s almost 1!

He is such a cutie and gave me so many great smiles during our session.

Seth & Mandy {Tahlequah Grace Baptist Church Wedding}

Remember Seth & Mandy? Well, a couple months back they finally tied the knot.  Their day was beautiful and full of smiles.  Seriously, one of the funnest (is that even a word?), laid back couples I’ve ever worked with.  Thank you guys for putting your complete trust in me for all your photos.  You and your families ROCK!  Here are my favorites from their day…

Seth and Mandy opted to see each other before the ceremony and planned in lots of time for photos of just the two of them…

Happy Birthday!

Meet our precious baby girl, Naomi Claire…

She arrived exactly 1 month ago today by c-section and was 9 lbs 11 oz and 21.25 inches long!

As I’m sure you can understand, life has been a whirlwind since, hence the lack of blogging on my part.  From c-section recovery to learning to breast feed (no, it’s not as natural as one might think!) to not getting more than 2 hours of sleep at a time, I have been trying to get the hang of this thing called motherhood.  But, oh how much we are in love with this incredible gift from God!  She is such a sweet and beautiful baby and I feel so much joy knowing I get to be her mother.

Here are some fun things she is doing:

-Always has to have her hands touching her face (even while she was in utero she did this!)

-LOVES to be held

-Makes really good eye contact

-Likes to be swaddled to sleep in her crib

-Gives the sweetest smiles :)

-Loves to fall asleep on Daddy’s chest

-Really likes bath time and the warm water

-Has great awake time after her mid-morning feeding

-Sleeps pretty good at night

-Gets fussy right before a feeding since we have to wake her up for them most of the time

-Could sleep all night if I let her

-Loves her car seat and falls asleep pretty much once she’s strapped in

-I just discovered that caffeine=BIG NO NO!  I haven’t had any really since having her except for yesterday when I had a couple Dr. Peppers.  She was fussy all night and all day so far today :(  But this is not normal for her.

-Loves mommy and daddy’s kisses and even opens her mouth to kiss us back! :) I know, she’s probably just rooting, but I like to think she is trying to give us kisses :)

-Falls asleep eating most of the time and I have to almost constantly stimulate her with a cold, wet rag

Naomi is pretty much awesome ;) And I of course could not wait to get my camera on her!

Loooove those kissable cheeks of hers!

Stay tuned for the birth story, a few weddings and an engagement session I’ve yet to blog!

Michael & Lauren {Tulsa McBirney Mansion Wedding}

Michael and Lauren go way back. I mean, waaaaay back.  To, like, elementary school.  He played soccer with her older brother all the way through high school, but as far as Lauren was concerned, boys were gross.  And especially her brother’s friends.  It wasn’t until they reconnected during college at the University of Tulsa that they saw something special in each other.  For Lauren, all of a sudden Michael had become this tall, dark, and handsome guy she couldn’t take her eyes off of.  And according to Michael, seeing Lauren in a TU cheerleading uniform was all it took. Oh, and he liked the fact that she loved animals :).  After dating for 4.5 years, they finally said ”I do” in front of their closest friends and family at the beautiful McBirney Mansion in Tulsa. Thank you all so much for allowing me to capture one of the best days of your lives!  Enjoy the favorites… Lauren, you look stunning in this set! Michael and Lauren were all smiles for their first look! And even though it was blazing hot outside, we got some great shots of just the two of them.. Oh my goodness, the ring bearer and flower girl were just too cute! One of Lauren’s brothers played and sang as their father walked her down the aisle…how sweet is that?! Love this photo of them after they are announced husband and wife!

Our Story..

Way back in the fall of 2003 when I was a junior in college, I was hanging out over at my friend {K}’s apartment with another friend of ours who was a boy.  The boy had told us that his friend Matt was coming to pick him up shortly, but we didn’t put 2 and 2 together. See, my other good friend {N} had been talking about this guy that she liked named Matt  for weeks, but neither of us had met him.  When Matt got to the apartment complex, he decided it would be fun to just try to walk into a few before figuring out which one his friend was actually in. On his first try, he walked into ours, goofed around with his friend and then left to go do what he’d set out to do.  If you know me, then you know I would NEVER do anything like that and I thought he was crazy for it!  Once he came back, our guy friend introduced Matt to {K} and I and we finally put it together that this was the guy our friend {N} had been talking about all along.  We burst out laughing, the boys left, and we called {N} to find out why in the world she liked this weird guy!  {N} explained how sweet and funny he was and we just couldn’t understand what she saw in him from our first impression.  Over the next few weeks, I got to know and hang out with Matt through my friend {N} and finally understood her huge crush.

Over the next semester, we all, me, {N} and Matt, had classes together, ate lunch together, studied together, and hung out.  I got to really know this ‘crazy guy’ I’d met only 6 months earlier and without my approval, feelings started to develop.  At first, it was weird. We had become really good friends, Matt and I, but I didn’t know if my friend {N} still liked him and I certainly didn’t want to like a boy that my friend did. So I put my feelings on the back burner, cut them off, and didn’t even think about them.  My feelings were not going to ruin the great friendship I had with both of them.  Then one day {N} tells me she doesn’t like Matt anymore, but by then another friend of ours had made her feelings for Matt known, not only to us, but to him.  (He was such a ladies man! HA!) So, again, I put my feelings on the back burner, cut them off, and didn’t even think about them.  I enjoyed my time with Matt like any friend would, and our friendship grew.  I noticed something different about him that no other boy had made me feel, comfortable.  Normally around guys I felt uptight, nervous, and self conscious, but with Matt, I could be myself. Completely.  He made me laugh like no one else and also embarrassed me like no one else!  But I loved being around him.

That summer, we both went to a summer program in order to grow in our relationship with Christ, be challenged to share our faith, and pray for people and places I had never even heard of.  It was a great experience for me, but some aspects were really hard too.  I didn’t have the best attitude about things, and Matt noticed.  I remember that every time I would see him, he would compliment me about something.  In his eyes, it was to make me feel better, but for me it was confusing and angering.  The friend back home still liked Matt, and I was trying to not like him, so having him say sweet things to me all the time did not help the situation!  So, I avoided him, griped at him for the smallest things, and really tried to push him away.  But, he didn’t go away.

My friend moved away at the beginning of the spring semester and we weren’t on the best of terms.  But my friendship with Matt had continued to grow, and that spring, he asked me on our first date.  2 years later, he asked me to be his wife with one of the best proposals I’ve ever heard of, but that’s for anther post :)

Matt – Today, we celebrate 4 years as husband and wife!  I cannot believe how fast time has flown, how much I’ve learned from you, and how much my love for you has grown.  You have taught me so much about love, sacrifice, hard work, diligence, integrity, truth, the list could go on.. You have been an amazing encourager to me, my very best friend, and confidant.  You bring me so much joy and laughter and I am so, so, sooo blessed to call you my husband.  And our daughter is beyond blessed to have a daddy like you! You will be incredible and I can’t wait to watch you as you learn this new role.  You’re my favorite! Love you!

Wyatt & Brittany {Tahlequah Eagle Bluff Wedding}

Just a couple weeks ago I posted the awesome bridal session I had with Brittany.  And when it came to the wedding, this girl went above and beyond!

 As she got ready in the girls cottage…

Wyatt goofed around with his groomsmen.  And to be honest, I think it took him longer to get ready… :)

They opted for a First Look which gave us plenty of time for photos around the Eagle Bluff resort..

The labels, invitations, and programs were all custom designed by the bride herself!  I was completely blown away by how amazing they all looked…

I loooved all the different center pieces Brittany had put together.  Each table was different, but all had a vintage flair…

She even had a kids table!  Who even thinks of that?!  Brilliant…
