Life through a lens

Weddings

Tyler & Victoria {Tulsa St. Henry’s Catholic Church Wedding}

About a year ago now, I shot this cute little engagement session with Tyler and Vicky.  Back then, I kind of knew Tyler through my husband Matt, and just barely knew Vicky because she played soccer at NSU.  Since then, Matt and I moved down to the north Dallas area just 20 minutes from where Tyler and Vicky lived and they have become some of our funnest, closest friends here.  Over the last 9 months, we’ve hung out with them numerous times and they even visited us in the hospital when sweet little Naomi was born.  Having become such good friends, I couldn’t wait to shoot their wedding last October!  Vicky had all along been sharing with me all the fun details about their day and I was so excited to get to be a part of it all.  T & V – I absolutely love hanging out with you two! You all complement each other so well and your wedding day was nothing short of amazing and beautiful, not to mention extremely fun! Seriously, BEST. WEDDING. PARTY. EVER.  I don’t think I’ve laughed so hard shooting the wedding party portraits before!  So glad we’ve become such good friends :)  Enjoy the favorites from your day!

This is Tyler surprising Vicky with the stunning diamond wedding band..

Husband and Wife!

Funnest. Reception. EVER.

Cody & Lacey {Skiatook Wedding}

This little wedding happened back in June last year, and frankly, I forgot to get it up here on the blog.  So here are my favorites from Cody and Lacey’s big day!

Seth & Mandy {Tahlequah Grace Baptist Church Wedding}

Remember Seth & Mandy? Well, a couple months back they finally tied the knot.  Their day was beautiful and full of smiles.  Seriously, one of the funnest (is that even a word?), laid back couples I’ve ever worked with.  Thank you guys for putting your complete trust in me for all your photos.  You and your families ROCK!  Here are my favorites from their day…

Seth and Mandy opted to see each other before the ceremony and planned in lots of time for photos of just the two of them…

Michael & Lauren {Tulsa McBirney Mansion Wedding}

Michael and Lauren go way back. I mean, waaaaay back.  To, like, elementary school.  He played soccer with her older brother all the way through high school, but as far as Lauren was concerned, boys were gross.  And especially her brother’s friends.  It wasn’t until they reconnected during college at the University of Tulsa that they saw something special in each other.  For Lauren, all of a sudden Michael had become this tall, dark, and handsome guy she couldn’t take her eyes off of.  And according to Michael, seeing Lauren in a TU cheerleading uniform was all it took. Oh, and he liked the fact that she loved animals :).  After dating for 4.5 years, they finally said ”I do” in front of their closest friends and family at the beautiful McBirney Mansion in Tulsa. Thank you all so much for allowing me to capture one of the best days of your lives!  Enjoy the favorites… Lauren, you look stunning in this set! Michael and Lauren were all smiles for their first look! And even though it was blazing hot outside, we got some great shots of just the two of them.. Oh my goodness, the ring bearer and flower girl were just too cute! One of Lauren’s brothers played and sang as their father walked her down the aisle…how sweet is that?! Love this photo of them after they are announced husband and wife!

Wyatt & Brittany {Tahlequah Eagle Bluff Wedding}

Just a couple weeks ago I posted the awesome bridal session I had with Brittany.  And when it came to the wedding, this girl went above and beyond!

 As she got ready in the girls cottage…

Wyatt goofed around with his groomsmen.  And to be honest, I think it took him longer to get ready… :)

They opted for a First Look which gave us plenty of time for photos around the Eagle Bluff resort..

The labels, invitations, and programs were all custom designed by the bride herself!  I was completely blown away by how amazing they all looked…

I loooved all the different center pieces Brittany had put together.  Each table was different, but all had a vintage flair…

She even had a kids table!  Who even thinks of that?!  Brilliant…

Christ the King Tulsa Wedding: Tom & Krisa

Tom and Krisa’a wedding was absolutely gorgeous, from the venue, to the dress, to all the little details in between.  It was my last wedding of 2010 and one of the best!  Here are my favorites from their big day…

As Krisa and her bridesmaids got ready at the church…

Tom and his groomsmen had a couple drinks at Kilkenny’s across the street…

Tom and Krisa chose to do a First Look, so we ventured around the church to find this gorgeous courtyard location…

I loved Krisa’s classic vintage look, and Tom looked quite handsome as well…

The reception took place at the German American Society, quite fitting since Krisa is part German…

Their first dance as husband and wife…

I’ll end with a photo from the toasts, which were heartfelt and obviously hilarious!

NSU Seminary Hall Wedding: Sam & Amber

Sam & Amber had a gorgeous wedding in front of one of the famous landmarks here in Tahlequah, OK, Seminary Hall at NSU.  The weather was perfect, the ceremony was short and sweet (more on that later), and the reception ended with fireworks!  I had a blast capturing their big day and here are the favorites…

I joined Amber as she got ready at her home…

Later, I caught up with the guys as they prepared…more like goofed around :)

Sam waited anxiously to see Amber for their First Look…which I LOVE!!!

I had so much fun with Sam and his groomsmen…they were hilarious!!

And Amber and her bridesmaids looked radiant…

As the ceremony was about to begin, I noticed Sam taking deep breaths and making faces like the one below.  It was pretty funny at the time how nervous he looked, and as I found out later, the officiant actually cut the ceremony extremely short because they really thought Sam was going to faint!  It was too funny!!

Another hilarious face from Sam…and I’m pretty sure Amber thought it was funny too :)

They’re married!!!

Fin & Feather Resort Wedding: Dusty & Jayde

Last summer, Jayde contacted me about the possibility of shooting her upcoming wedding in the fall.  After meeting up with her and her fiance, Dusty, I knew we were a perfect match.  They were completely in love, had a beautiful venue for their wedding, AND they wanted to do the First Look.  I couldn’t have been more excited for their big day and it did not disappoint!  The day was a perfect 75 degrees with lots of sun and some gorgeous locations to shoot.  The ceremony was beautiful and heartfelt and the reception was a blast.  Thank you guys for making me feel like part of your family for the day and allowing me to capture one of the best days of your life!  Here are the favorites…(ok, so it was really hard to choose, so there’s a lot here!)

Jayde and Dusty were such naturals in front of the camera….

I absolutely LOVE this photo of Jayde!  So much so that I ordered a 20×30 canvas for my office…

The ceremony took place in front of a pond on the resort and was absolutely breathtaking!

Tahlequah Grace Baptist Wedding: Mike + Jessica

Mike and Jess have been long time friends of my husband and I, so when they asked me to shoot their wedding, I couldn’t have been more excited!  They are two of the kindest, humblest, most caring people I know, and them together = beautiful.  They met while going to church, and over the course of about a year, became really good friends.  During this time Matt and I would separately give each of them a hard time about who they liked, and even joked with them about each other.  Though they would never admit it to us, they had both been praying about the other for almost a year!  Then FINALLY, Mike asked Jessica’s dad for permission to court his daughter, and with his blessing, they began a relationship.  Several months later, Mike proposed in the very church they had met in and still attend.

Mike and Jess, your wedding was beautiful and full of so much love and laughter.  I’m so glad I got to be a part of your day by capturing all the little moments in photos : )  So, here are the favorites…

Jessica looked radiant as she got ready in a funny old shirt she made while in highschool..

I absolutely loved Jessica’s lacy dress! The details were incredible..

Loved this moment between Jessica and her long time BFF, Keisha..

Last minute touches just before seeing Mike for the first time that day..

Mike lookin’ all handsome..

The first look…

Some incredible light to go with a beautiful couple..

Rawrrrr…

Unbeknownst to their friends and family, Mike and Jess had been practicing for a choreographed first dance for weeks.  It was incredible and so fun to watch!

Tahlequah Crescent Valley Wedding: Kyle + Misty

As she sat in the chair doing her makeup and getting her hair done, Misty was excited yet calm and relaxed as she prepared for her big day.  And Kyle?  He was just as calm as he hung out with his groomsmen.  When the time came for the first look, they fell into each others arms and smiled.  Their day had finally come.  Kyle and Misty’s big day was nothing short of beautiful.  From the details on the sign-in table, to the reception, to the bouquet, everything was planned to perfection.  Misty’s mom played a huge part in the planning process which made it that much more special.  The ceremony was filled with laughter and the reception with tears of joy and excitement.  They were surrounded by friends and family who completely supported their love, and with that, their new lives began.

Kyle and Misty, thank you all so much for allowing me to document your day.  I’m so excited for you as you begin your new journey together as husband and wife!  Enjoy the photos!  Here are the favorites from the day..

Tulsa Bridle Creek Ranch Wedding: Jared + Sarah

Jared and Sarah’s wedding day didn’t go exactly as planned…it was supposed to be outside on a gorgeous evening in the middle of May.  But Oklahoma weather doesn’t always do what it’s supposed to, and that day there was a 60% chance of rain.  So, a few days before, they decided to move the ceremony and reception indoors and hope we could get some photos outside.  Funny thing was that on their wedding day, it was overcast, about 75 degrees, and no rain!  A photographer’s dream day.

Sarah handled all the last minute changes with a huge smile on her face because nothing could change the fact that she was marrying the man of her dreams.  And Jared?  He was so incredibly nervous that day that he had gotten sick that morning.  But nothing would stop him from seeing his beautiful bride.

Thank you guys so much for letting me document your big day.  Words cannot express how appreciative I am of the opportunity you gave me, the trust you had in me, and the joy you shared with me as I was and still am just starting out on my own new journey with photography.  I know you had a wonderful time in St. Lucia!

On with the pictures…

I loved all the little details we found around the Bridle Creek grounds and tried to include them in a lot of the photos…

Loooooved Sarah’s dress…

Sidenote: as I said earlier, Jared was really nervous that day, so nervous that while he and the groomsmen were getting ready in the cabin he turned the heater on full blast instead of the AC and didn’t realize it until everyone was sweating profusely!  So funny!  He just couldn’t wait to see Sarah..

Getting ready to see Sarah for the first time on their wedding day…

Jared’s mom was so happy! I just loved being around her…

There were a lot of laughs during the ceremony…

First dance…

Off to St. Lucia they go!!

Edited to add:  This day wouldn’t have run soo smoothly if it weren’t for my AMAZING 2nd shooter/assistant DeeAnn.  I have to give credit to her for some of these amazing photos as well!! Thanks DeeAnn!

First Look

What is the First Look?  It is when the bride and groom choose to see each other before the ceremony in order to get most, if not all, the formal photos out of the way so that everyone arrives at the reception at the same time.  Once the bride and groom are ready, the photographer coordinates the First Look, usually by taking the groom somewhere secluded and intimate where he awaits his beautiful bride.  When she arrives, they are able to take each other in for the first time on their day.  The couple is able to say things to each other during that time that they would never be able to say at the alter.  As the photographer, I love it when a couple chooses this option for several reasons:

1)  I am able to capture the raw emotion of the bride and groom as they see each other for the first time without 300+ guests watching them.  They are able to express that emotion to each other instead of keeping it all in until after the ceremony.

2)  We are able to take photos in natural light

3)  The couple is able to have a mini photo shoot of just the two of them

4)  The day flows much smoother when there’s no added stress to get quick photos of everyone after the ceremony

5)  Everyone gets to the reception at the same time and the couple doesn’t miss seeing guests that leave early due to taking formal photos

My husband and I did not do a First Look because, at the time, I had no idea what one was.  We waited to see each other until the ceremony.  And that ‘look’ on my husband’s face, well, it wasn’t that awesome…

He looks scared and really nervous, like he’s about to puke.  Not exactly what I was hoping for, but luckily he got to tell me later what he was thinking and feeling.  I just wish we would have had that time before all the rush to take it all in together.

Obviously, this is your day and your decision.  I just hope I can educate someone about this opportunity that they otherwise wouldn’t have known.

And to show you what I’m talking about, here’s a few photos from the First Look at Jared & Sarah’s wedding:

He was so nervous and excited as he heard Sarah approaching…

More to come from their wedding in the next post!  Happy Friday!
